How to Install a Jamar Shifter
- 1). Disconnect the shift linkage from the stock shifter box on your sand rail. If it is undamaged, you can reuse it for the Jamar shifter. You can, however, install a Jamar shift linkage in its place if you wish.
- 2). Feel underneath the plate on which the stock shifter is mounted. You will be able to feel two mounting bolts. Remove these mounting bolts with the socket wrench and discard the stock shifter.
- 3). Align the Jamar shifter over the mounting holes on the shifter mounting plate and check to be sure the holes line up with the mounting holes on the base of the shifter. If they don't, use an electric drill to drill new mounting holes in the base plate.
- 4). Position the Jamar shifter on the mounting plate with the shift coupling positioned so it faces the engine. Attach the shift linkage to the shift coupling. When this is completed, install the mounting bolts into the shifter base through the underside of the mounting plate and tighten them with the socket wrench.
- 5). Test the gears for the transmission to be certain they engage with the engine flywheel before attempting to start the buggy.
