There are some surrogates who are paid for their services and there are those that do it for free because paying for surrogates is illegal in some countries.

If you have no idea on how surrogacy is done, there are generally two ways of surrogacy programs of getting it done.

Traditional surrogacy type

In this type of surrogacy, the surrogate; not the aspiring parent, is the biological bother of the child that she is carrying. This type of surrogacy was used for centuries but people don't usually talk about them. This is also useful if the pregnancy process is too dangerous for the woman.

Gestational surrogacy

The second type of surrogacy is the modern type called gestational surrogacy, where an egg cell is harvested from the mother and sperm cells are taken from the father. These cells are then made to fertilize in a laboratory before being implanted to the womb of the surrogate.

Make sure that the type of surrogacy arrangement you use will fit your needs.
