How to Capture a Still Picture From a DVD

    • 1). Download and install VLC Media Player from videolan.org. VLC Media Player is an excellent free software that supports playback for most video file types and DVDs. It also has program features that may help in capturing the image, such as the ability to slow down the motion of the video.

    • 2). Insert the DVD into the computer's DVD drive and open VLC Media Player. Click "File" then "Open", and using the explorer panel navigate to the DVD and open it. Fast-forward to the part in the DVD where the capture will occur. Carefully select the right (clearest) frame. Slow down the motion of the video by clicking the backward arrow button on the bottom left of the control panel; click it several times to decrease the speed further. Use the space bar to pause the video at the desired frame. Double-click the video to make it full screen.

    • 3). Click the computer's "PrtSc" button located on the keyboard. The computer has now taken a screen capture. Press "Esc" on the keyboard to escape the full screen.

    • 4). Open the "Start Menu" in Windows, click "Programs", click "Accessories" then "Paint". Once the Paint program is open, paste the image into the new document by clicking "Edit", "Paste". The screen capture is now loaded into the paint document.

    • 5). Click "File" then "Save As" to save the image. Use the explorer window locate an appropriate folder, name the image file and click "Save". Close paint and VLC by clicking the X in the top right hand corner in both programs. Navigate to the directory in which the image was saved, double-click the image and verify the capture has worked. Enjoy the captured image.
