Lighting for an Office
- Poor lighting from overhead lighting or windows can result in harsh, uneven lighting and a glare on computer monitors. The glare is reflected directly into the eyes of office workers.
- Reducing glare from overhead lighting sources is the easiest way to improve office lighting. Provide a switch for each light so that workers can adjust the amount of overhead light. If fluorescent tubes are used, reduce brightness and glare by removing one tube from each fixture. Alternatively, install overhead lights with parabolic louvers that can direct the light where it is needed. Provide adjustable window blinds to reduce glare from sunlight. Equip each desk with task lamps that will provide light directly on the work surface.
- Poor office lighting can cause a variety of problems, including stress, headaches, shoulder and neck pain, and sensitivity to light. The result is reduced productivity and decreased overall job performance.
