How to Remove a Drive Tension Pulley on a John Deere 826
- 1). Disengage the drive belt tensioner lever. Turn the machine over on its side so that the drive tensioner pulley is facing upward.
- 2). Hold the spring that is attached to the tensioner pulley with one hand and remove the cotter pin from the spring with the needle nose pliers. Pull the spring off of the tensioner pulley and off of the machine with your hand. Place the cotter pin and spring in a safe area.
- 3). Turn the bolt in the middle of the drive tensioner pulley counterclockwise using a breaker bar and a socket until the bolt is loose. If the tensioner pulley itself begins to turn when turning the bolt, have a helper grab the pulley with the jaws of the 6-inch pliers. Turn the bolt counterclockwise again while the pulley is being held with the pliers until the bolt is loose.
- 4). Remove the bolt from the middle of the pulley and pull the pulley off of the tensioner shaft using your hands. Install a new pulley by following the above steps in reverse order.
