Cut Costs When Flying

103 27
Flying seems to be getting more and more expensive, and I'm not referring to the flight itself.
Once you pass security, it is easy to head straight for the book store to pick up magazines, perhaps a new book, a snack, and a large bottle of water for while you wait.
However, these extra expenses add up quickly and, for frequent travelers, can mean big bucks.
Here are some quick tips to cut back on your travel expenses next time you fly.
Transportation.
Airport parking fees can add up fast.
If possible, try to get someone to take you to the airport.
If that's not possible, your next best option is dependent upon the length of your trip and distance from the airport.
Some options include Super Shuttles, taxis, or the airport parking if you have a short trip.
If you must utilize airport parking, look online to find the most inexpensive option.
There are usually economy parking lots available to travelers, less convenient but also less expensive than the parking garages typically right next to the airport.
Food.
Take plenty of snacks so you can avoid stopping at convenience stores in the terminal.
Nuts and dried fruit are both excellent options that will keep you satisfied while you fly.
Water.
Bring an empty bottle that you can keep in your carry-on.
After passing through security you can fill it up at the nearest water fountain.
Not only will this keep you hydrated before boarding, it will also be extra water for the plane so you can avoid paying for extra drinks.
The best option is a soft water bottle that, when empty, can be flattened in order to not take up any room in your luggage.
Entertainment.
Plan ahead and have plenty of books and magazines in order to avoid the escalated prices associated with purchasing at the airport.
Bring along your own set of headphones in case there is any in flight entertainment on board, whether it be music or television shows.
Many airlines charge extra to purchase headphones in flight.
Weigh your baggage.
A survey that was done by USA Today shows that some airlines have surpassed the $400 mark for passengers traveling abroad with overweight baggage.
Avoid the risk of overweight baggage by carrying a small luggage scale with you.
This will allow you to weigh your luggage both before you leave home and before you leave your destination, to ensure your purchases haven't pushed your bag over the weight limits.
