How to Glue Hardwood Flooring Over Concrete

    • 1). Mop the concrete floor with household cleaner. Let it dry for at least two days.

    • 2). Spread floor installation adhesive over the concrete, along one edge of the floor, with a notched adhesive trowel. Bring the area of glue about 2 feet out from the wall and running the full length of the floor.

    • 3). Set the first course of hardwood floor boards along the wall, with the grooved side facing the wall. Connect the boards at the ends and put wall spacers between the boards and the wall, to hold the boards out by 3/8-inch.

    • 4). Lay the whole course, until you get to the end of the floor. Measure and cut the final piece on your miter saw to fit, leaving 3/8-inch of space at the wall.

    • 5). Set the second course in place alongside the first, pressing the tongue & groove milling of the boards together. Knock the boards tightly together by setting a small scrap cut of flooring alongside the boards and tapping with a mallet. Arrange the boards so the ends don't line up between courses. Cut the last pieces on each row as needed.

    • 6). Work your way across the floor, course by course, spreading more glue as needed. Don't step on the newly laid flooring. Continue until you are a few feet from the far wall and running out of room to work.

    • 7). Let the flooring set overnight. Install the remaining section. Use a table saw to cut the planks for the final course along their lengths, leaving a 3/8-inch gap by the wall. Your floor trim will hide the gaps.
