If you are new to the whole blogging scene, you might find it a bit confusing and overwhelming.
There is so much information out there on blogging that it can be difficult to process it all.
Here are the basic tips that you need to know as a newbie.
The more you post, the more popular you'll be.
Both search engines and people like lots of new content, so if you can give it to them, they will keep coming back.
Most experts recommend daily posts for the first several months, if not forever.
You can post more often when the spirit moves you, though.
There are times when you might be inspired to throw off three or four posts in one day! Register at Technorati.
This useful directory helps you gain popularity by adding you to their search and frequently spidering your blog to see if you have new posts.
They also give you a ranking based on how many other blogs link to you.
Join the community.
Bloggers tend to clump together and you can gain a lot by reading other blogs, particularly those relating to your topic.
Comment on their posts and get some valuable backlinks to your own blog site.
Keep your posts tight.
By eliminating extra words and phrases, you make it easier to read your blog.
The whole idea is to offer good info fast and the better written your posts, the easier they will be to read.
People on the run will pause to read a nice, tight blurb, whereas they will skip over wordy missives.
Monetize your blog sensibly.
Don't fill your entire blog with ads.
If you have a dozen ads in your sidebar, plus a banner at the top of each post, another in the middle and AdSense at the bottom of the post, you are going to scare away your readers.
Instead, keep it toned down and use text link ads where possible since these are less distracting.
When you run out of ideas for a post, try doing a link post.
This just means choosing a theme and linking with a brief description to 5-10 websites or blogs that you find useful within that theme.
For example, you might post ten handy gardening tool vendors on your blog about gardening.
Keep your blog simple.
The design shouldn't be too complicated.
If you have five columns with different things going on in each one, you will just confuse your visitors.
The same goes for wild backgrounds and fancy text.
Just keep it to two or maximum three columns, with colors that don't damage your retinas and a simple font like New Times Roman or Arial.
This will help you keep visitors.
Blogging is great fun, whether you are doing it for personal reasons or to earn some extra cash.
It won't take long for you to get addicted and sucked into the community of bloggers.
After that, you will find more and more advanced blogging tips are available.
