How to Convert a Convertible Crib to a Headboard
- 1). Locate your crib's owner's guide or instructions. Each crib will have specific ways to change the crib into a full bed. If they are not available, search online for a downloadable copy or call the manufacturer to request a mailed copy.
- 2). Unscrew the panel at the front of the crib and remove the front according to your crib manufacturer's directions. Set the screws and the front panel aside. On some styles of convertible cribs, this portion of the crib becomes a foot board. Remove the side panels by unscrewing the bolts or screws and setting them and the panels aside carefully. You should have only the back panel remaining. This will become the headboard.
- 3). Assemble the bed rails depending on the style of frames you own. Some convertible cribs have bed rails that will hook directly to the head board and come included with the crib. Some have wooden rails that are sold separately. Other styles or brands of convertible cribs have rails that are on wheels and come in two pieces that connect. These rails form a bed frame that can often be screwed into the headboard. Attach the rails to the headboard in whichever manner is appropriate for your style of rails.
- 4). Attach the foot board if one is included with your crib. Place the box spring and mattress set on the rails. Test the bed with an adult's weight by lying on it to ensure it will support your child. If in doubt, place wooden bed slats under the box spring and rest them on the bed rails. Make the bed.
