A Life Once Lost - Iron Gag
About.com Rating
Anger is one of the main emotions driving heavy metal music. Many releases have an undercurrent of controlled hostility, and others are simply pissed off. A Life Once Lost falls into the latter category.
Iron Gag is an angry album from start to finish in terms of attitude and delivery. Musically, however, it is much more well rounded and engaging. The songs are brutal, but also have very strong melodies and a lot of groove.
From slow crushers to fast and technical punishers, A Life Once Lost displays solid songwriting throughout.
Vocalist Bob Meadows delivers bitter lyrics with a palpable anger. His style is aggressive and potent, and his yells are very passionate. As far as classification, A Life Once Lost blends hardcore, metal and southern rock influences. They have been labeled deathcore, metalcore and technical groove metal, but what they really are is a band who blends excellent musicianship and songwriting into extreme but very catchy music.
