With so many baby boomers retiring recently and the trend not about to stop anytime soon, it is important to begin now to think about the different kinds of senior living facilities to see which is going to be the best for you.
Truth is, there are so many people in that particular generation, the baby boomer generation, that hundreds and even thousands of senior retirement communities have been built and stand ready to receive the expected flood of new occupants.
But before you decide which community is going to be the best for you in your retirement, it is helpful to have some information on hand.
Senior living facilities fall into three basic types.
Which kind they are depends on the amount of personal and nursing care that the residents need in order to live a great life.
The actual names of these retirement facilities vary from state to state in the US, but the ideas remain pretty much constant.
For retirees who need quite a bit of nursing care during the day and the night, the round the clock sort of facility is probably the best choice.
These provide help to the residents with all the activities for daily living that they need and have nursing staff on duty 24 hours a day.
They are most like the old idea of nursing homes.
At the other end of the care spectrum are the senior retirement communities which cater to active adults.
These facilities are really just like regular communities anywhere except that all the houses and apartments have seniors living in them.
There is usually a community center and many times a wide selection of activities and even restaurants on the property.
This kind is for people who just want to live around other seniors and don't need any extra help at all.
In the middle are the assisted living facilities, where the residents need some extra care during the day but not a lot.
Sometimes help with dressing, or grooming or housekeeping is provided.
The type and amount of services that are offered in each of these facilities varies by state.
There are really lots of choices these days for what kind of facility you want to retire to.
Many of the folks who are baby boomers choose to live in the more active communities, but there is no reason why they can't live in the other two kinds of senior living facilities either, if that is the best kind of environment for them.
