    Size and Appearance

    • A pregnant Yorkie will start gaining weight slowly. Her stomach will grow larger and firmer than before. Her nipples will become firm and, as her pregnancy progresses, more noticeable. Her vulva will swell and remain swollen throughout her pregnancy. During the later stages of pregnancy, her nipples will darken.

    Behavior

    • A Yorkie's behavior changes during pregnancy. She will be clingy and seek the constant attention of her owner. As she starts cleaning herself more than usual, she will also begin nesting by gathering items to make a special comfortable area for delivery. A pregnant Yorkie, which may dig more than usual, may adopt a toy and start mothering it in preparation for mothering her puppies.

    Health

    • A pregnant Yorkie will lose her appetite and have bouts of morning sickness for the first few days of pregnancy. She will continue to have a discharge through the entire nine weeks of pregnancy.

      When going into labor, she may cry out or vomit. Her temperature will fall suddenly just before she goes into labor. If her temperature falls below 100 degrees Fahrenheit, take her to the veterinarian as soon as possible for delivery.

    Activity Level

    • A pregnant Yorkie will suddenly lose interest in her normal activity. She will become sluggish and sleepy and prefer to be indoors. She will tend to rest more and usually curl up in a quiet place or a sofa. She will refuse to go outdoors and will resist any form of exercise.
