The Kenmore 94812 is a vertical home "laundry center" composed of a washing machine and a tumble dryer. The tumble drying section is positioned above the top-loading washing machine. When a wash cycle finishes, the washing machine lid is raised, the tumble dryer door opened, and the laundry lifted from the wash drum into the dryer without any need to stoop down, as in the case of a washing machine and dryer positioned side-by-side. - The washtub has variable water levels. There is a choice of four water temperature settings and six washer cycles -- delicates, heavy duty, whites, permanent press, soak and normal. The wash motion is provided by a dual-action agitator. A prewash and extra rinse can be added to the wash cycles.
- The bleach dispenser is located on the left hand side of the washer, under the lid. If chlorine bleach is required, the correct amount should be placed in this dispenser before the wash begins. The fabric softener dispenser is located in the agitator and should be filled with the correct amount of softener before the wash begins.
- The control panel is located at eye level just underneath the dryer door. This includes the wash cycle selector knob, which is turned to the required wash program and pulled out to start the machine. An additional safety feature is the lid lock; this activates once the wash cycle begins and does not unlock until one minute after it ends.
- The dryer has a choice of five temperature settings. Its drum measures 5.75 cubic feet and features both standard and special drying cycles. The standard cycles are casual, damp dry, delicate, heavy duty, normal and permanent press. The special cycles include air dry, jeans, large items and towels. The dryer is equipped with a drum light and an end-of-cycle signal.
- The dryer's cycle control knob is used to select the desired drying setting. The dryer start control is then turned to the "On" position and held for one to two seconds before being released.
- The dryer rack is used for items which should not be tumble dried. It is fitted to the drum by removing the tumble dryer's lint screen and placing the rack's front bar under the lip of the lint screen opening. Items are placed on top of it, but must not weigh more than 10 pounds. The items must have space between them.
