Was Barack Obama Too Inexperienced to Be President?
In the early days of Obama's run for President a lot of people said he had no experience.
Remember all those people who said this guy had just been a Senator for a couple years and did he really have the experience to walk into the ring and govern and be the leader of the Free World.
Barack wrote a couple books and gave some outstanding speeches and then the economy tanked.
John McCain went flaky and suddenly the man with a couple years of experience looked pretty good.
Fast forward a year later.
We have a man who has reigned over a super majority in congress and now a simple majority and yet he seems to be backsliding.
He has taken on a lot of issues and approached them the way any intelligent man would, but now the question is has his lack of experience bit him in the you know where.
There is the way things are done outside a system and the way things are done inside a system and we have to admit that President Obama has had to operate outside the system because he was so new.
We can say yes he has had a myriad of huge problems.
Agreed.
But you also get the feeling that we may have been better off if President Obama might have had a few more years to find his way around Washington.
Any system has secrets.
These are the way things get done and they have nothing to do with the outside worlds perception of the way the world operates.
This is true of government and of corporations and President Obama seems a little like the proverbial freshman who just arrived at college.
Franklin Roosevelt knew what he was going against when he came to power.
He knew that only bold moves would knock back entrenched interests and he rammed through the New Deal like Patton and let the courts catch up with him years later.
He understood that power belonged to the man who grabbed it and he never looked back and kept going until he had the WPA CCC and Social Security and Medicare in place and he never lost the advantage.
But he was an experienced governor from New York.
He understood power and how to get things done.
I hope I'm wrong.
I hope President Obama will find his footing, but you do wonder...
maybe a couple more years under his belt wouldn't have been a bad thing.
Maybe we need a senior now rather than a freshman.
