Set the Mood with Appropriate Lightingv

Since party lighting is different from wedding lighting which is also different from an outdoor concert, the lighting for a particular event should be designed with the client's goals in mind.  This means that the lighting designer should have a clear-cut idea as to what the client wants, and he should be able to give valuable suggestions given his experience in the business.  However, even if you choose to hire a professional, it is still advisable that you understand the basic concepts and terms associated with event lighting so that it will be easier to relate to the lighting designer.  This will be helpful in ensuring that you will be happy with the outcome.

Oftentimes, it is not enough that you have an idea as to the desired lighting effects.  Before finalizing arrangements for lighting rental, you have to know the power capabilities of your chosen venue.  Outdoor activities may require electric generators.  Indoor venues that are not designed for large events may also need additional power.  It is best to get hold of a circuit diagram of the venue's power grid and pass it on to a lighting professional.  In so doing, he will be able to determine the appropriate lighting equipment given the power load limitations and advice that a generator is brought in, if necessary.

Now that we are aware of how lighting could impact on our event, the question of budget arises.  Naturally this would depend on the scale of the occasion and the extent of lighting required.  An outdoor circus with large tents and flying trapezes will be lit differently from a relatively simple wedding with just 50 friends and relatives as guests.  The former may necessitate Kliegl lights and generator sets, which have high rental rates.  The latter can make do with up lighting of the room and pin spotting of the wedding cake.  Naturally, these are cheaper.  The bottom line is that you have to set aside a decent budget for this.

Also when considering lighting rental, the cost of labor should be taken into account.  There are rental packages which already include the labor component.  However, the load in and load out times may necessitate additional staff depending on the volume of lighting equipment to be brought in and the complexity of the set-up.  Of course, more staff boils down to higher labor cost.

The importance of event lighting cannot be undermined.  Proper lighting will make the event more memorable by immediately creating visual impact and producing the right mood.  To this end, proper planning should be done and adequate resources should be committed to this single most powerful element, which can make an amazing transformation of your venue.   Oftentimes, it is best to seek the assistance of lighting professionals.v
