Cures for Large Pores

    Steam

    • Steam is a great way to open the pores and soften the hardened oil. The heat from the steam gently cleans out the pores. A sauna is helpful if you have access to one either at home or at a health club. To steam the face you can buy a facial sauna (sold in drugstores and online). But a less expensive method is to boil water on a stove. When the water has reached the boiling point turn off the stove and wait a few minutes for the steam to cool down so you don't burn your skin. Put a towel over your head and lean over the pot. Steam your face for 10 to 15 minutes. Then wash your face with cleanser and warm water to completely remove the oil that has been expelled from your pores.

    Homemade Scrubs

    • A scrub of salt and buttermilk is a good way to clean out your pores. Salt is an abrasive substance that can scrub the pores by getting into the tiny areas. Buttermilk has lactic acid, which can also clean by exfoliating or removing the surface of the skin. Make a paste by adding buttermilk to salt. Scrub the paste into your face and then leave the mask on for a few minutes. Rinse off with warm water.

Another homemade scrub simply uses sugar and water. Like in salt, the tiny particles in sugar can deep clean the pores. Make a paste and apply it to your skin, massaging gently. Leave it on for a few minutes before rinsing.

    Chemicals Peels

    • While you can do a chemical peel at home or have one at a beauty salon, the more effective chemical peels are done by dermatologists or cosmetic surgeons. Chemical peels use an acid or other chemical to burn off the top skin layer. Many doctors use glycolic acid, a natural substance made from fruit acids. The doctor applies a thin layer of the chemical to the skin. There is some slight stinging, but no pain. The doctor leaves the chemical on the skin for awhile. The length of time depends on the strength of the chemical, the size of the pores and the condition of your skin. Afterward, the chemical is cleaned off the skin. The skin is always renewing itself and a chemical peel accelerates the process. When the new skin appears, the pores are smaller in size.
