How to Restore a Concrete Porch
- 1). Create a boundary for the porch by lining the edges of the porch with 2-by-4-inch boards. Hammer metal or wooden stakes into the ground at 12-inch intervals directly against the boards to keep them from slipping while you work.
- 2). Take any large pieces of broken concrete out of the porch area. Small broken pieces are fine, since the new concrete will seep down around them and secure them. The larger holes with the large broken pieces will be filled with new concrete when you begin pouring it.
- 3). Sweep and mop the porch completely to remove all dirt and debris. The porch must be completely dry before moving on to the next step.
- 4). Paint a generous layer of acrylic block fill primer to the porch. Immediately after you apply it, your assistant should push the primer into the pores of the concrete with a paint roller to smooth it. Allow the acrylic block fill primer to dry per the manufacturer's directions, which can vary from brand to brand.
- 5). Combine the concrete in small batches according to the manufacturer's directions. Depending upon what brand of concrete you are using, the mixing instructions may vary.
- 6). Working from one side of the porch to the other, pour the mixed concrete over the old porch. The concrete will flow into the cracks, small chips and any large holes where the broken pieces of concrete were. The concrete will level itself out as you work.
- 7). Allow three or four days for the concrete to properly cure before walking on it.
