Making Interior Window Shutters
- 1). Measure the width of the window from jamb to jamb. Subtract ¼ inch. Divide this by four to find the individual panel figure.
- 2). Find the height requirements by measuring from top to bottom of the window. Take off ¼ inch for clearance. Divide by four for the individual panel height.
- 3). Subtract three inches from the individual panel’s height and width measurements. The new height measurement gives you the wand length. The width measurement corresponds to the width of the louvers.
- 4). Cut 32 panel frame pieces. You’ll need 16 top and bottom pieces and 16 side pieces.
- 5). Cut 200 louvers according to the louver width measurements. The louvers need to be about 1 ¾ inch thick.
- 6). Cut eight wand pieces.
- 1). Glue the pegs to the louvers, one on each side.
- 2). Measure out 25 spaces on each side frame panel piece. Use a pencil to mark these. Drill holes the size of the pegs on each marking.
- 3). Insert the louvers into the peg holes on the side frame pieces.
- 4). Glue the top panel pieces to the side pieces.
- 5). Install magnetic catches on the top and bottom corners of the panels. Insert and tighten screws.
