Expanding the Number of Languages to Provide Service for More

In the judicial and healthcare sector professionals interact with limited English proficiency Americans on a daily basis. There hundreds of languages throughout the world and little to non interpretation and translation services that can meet the growing number of non-English speaking individuals, until now.

When we think of individuals that are in need of these services we think of Spanish speaking Americans, but the emergence of other nationalities and languages in these sectors are painting a very different picture.

Understand different languages and the regions these languages originated in helps interpreters and translators connect with patients and other non-English speaking individuals. For example, Somali-Americans may be from different regions and not speak the same language. To eliminate confusion and sometimes recent of being confused with another nationalities it is important that hospitals and judicial systems have the proper staff and or software to avoid these hurdles.

The heavily relied upon interpretation and translation by overworked and too few interpreters has taken a toll on the healthcare sector. Several hospitals have begun to implement translation software services to keep up with the influx of non-English or limited English speaking patients.

The judicial systems across the country also jumping aboard to ensure that legal advice and sentencing are less complicated. The Department of Justice implementation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 requires courts to provide interpreters for LEP people. Unfortunately, individuals looking for help in courthouses are met with little to no help in translating and interpreting simple information. Unless these individuals are in communities where their language is present the picking are slim in terms of finding a courthouse staff that is able to assist in their needs.

Stratus Video Interpreting plans to try to eliminate that problem by expanding its languages from 11 to 50 in the next six months. The push is to ensure that individuals receive the quality care and service they deserve. All too many times patients are unable to comprehend what a doctor or nurse is trying to relay to them. This in turn stunts the level of service and care that healthcare providers want to provide to their patients.

For jurisdictions with their own interpreters, software systems like Stratus can make much more efficient use of them by eliminating unnecessary travel time and delays. This also allows judicial systems to handle the languages they do not currently staff.

 Through expanding language software that covers more than a few languages, it ensures that a greater majority of Americans and visitors understand their diagnosis, policies, laws, instructions, and treatment options.
