  Throwing a celestially themed party is an appropriate idea for someone who has an interest in astronomy or just appreciates the moon and stars from an aesthetic perspective. While many boutiques and shops offer star- and moon-themed decorations, you need not shell out money for pricey items. Instead, using basic materials, you can make your own festive adornments.
  
  

Origami Mini Stars

• You can create your own origami mini stars out of folded paper in a few easy steps. Find instructions online or in an origami book. Create a large quantity and string them together to create a garland of stars. Alternatively, hang the stars off of strings attached to a focal point such as a lamp or hanger so that the stars seem to stream down from the ceiling. Cover the exterior of the stars with a spray adhesive and then toss a handful of glitter on them to give them a shimmery, celestial appearance.
  
  

Papier-mâché Moon

• You might be familiar with papier-mâché for creating pinatas and masks, but you can also use this craft technique to create a decorative moon that you can hang from the middle of the room like a disco ball. After you've created a large round papier-mâché sphere, given it time to dry and popped the inner balloon, cover the surface area with a layer of light blue-gray paint. Allow that coat of paint to dry and then add another layer of paint, this time using a metallic silver design. The most important finishing touch is to draw a face on the moon in lavender paint: it can be a serious, sad, angry or silly face, depending on your preference. Run a satin ribbon through the top of the moon so that you can hang it from your ceiling.
  
  

Starry Night

• For a truly celestial party, you're going to want the furniture in your home to correlate to the theme. Rather than buying all new furniture or painting over the furniture that you have, create simple "starry night" throws to toss over your couch and chairs. Get a long sheet of dark purple, dark blue or black fabric, along with pieces of silver fabric. Cut stars and moons out of the silver fabric and glue or sew them onto the dark piece of fabric. Toss it over a piece of furniture to transform it into something far more fanciful.
