Visitors are encouraged to stop in at the visitor's center to learn about the American Indians who live in the region, including the Navajo and Ute people, whose craftsmen are present at the monument.

With ruins, national parks, wide vistas, canyons, lakes and natural bridges, Monument Valley is a can't-miss camping locale for visitors to the Four Corners area. Accessible from Highway 160, Monument Valley is a quick skip down the road from the Four Corners Monument. Monument Valley attractions include hiking, biking, golf, horseback riding, museums, shopping and galleries.
- The Colorado River is an idea location for kayaking, canoeing and whitewater rafting in the Four Corners region. River-goers can rent kayaks and canoes for a day's excursion or join a guided whitewater rafting expedition. Other Four Corners region rivers include the Green River, Gunnison River, Delores River, San Juan River, San Miguel River and Animas River.
- Vacationers interested in archeological finds won't want to miss visiting the Mesa Verde National Park. Some of the oldest archeological digs, including sprawling ancestral Puebloan cities and petroglyphs are available by guided tour from nearby cities. Mesa Verde park recreation includes hiking, snowmobiling, horseback riding, camping, skiing, hunting and fishing. Lodging includes RV and tent camping sites, bed and breakfast locations, hotels, ranches and rental cabins.

While the park does not have camping, it makes an adventurous day trip for families looking to explore one of the United States' geologic wonders. Activities include a scenic, 28-mile byway, hiking, biking, horseback riding and geocaching for treasure hunters.
