How to Treat Anorexia – Know the Facts

Anorexia in itself is not a chronic physical health disease, but a psychological problem in which a person overexerts himself and literally starves himself to get the beautiful body like that of models that one can flaunt. And it is this obsession of fitness that makes them worried about their weight all the time.

One of the more common traditional treatments of anorexia is mixing a drink made from a handful of the seeds of caraway and hops. This is especially recommended for the loss of appetite following a serious debilitating illness. Other remedies include angelica, barley, carrots and watercress because they are thought to stimulate the appetite. Herbs that encourage eating and are considered to be appetite stimulants are chamomile, sage, thyme, lavender, tarragon, yarrow, marjoram, hawthorn, myrrh, gentian, wormwood, hops and centaury. Horseradish is also a very good appetite stimulant.

With changing lifestyles, anorexia has taken the shape of a common problem in the people's life. And the youngsters and some early-aged adults are the one's who are the most affected of all. Due to pressure of work and studies, eating habits have worsened, giving more grounds to the disorder of anorexia.

Lime is also a valuable remedy for restoring a lost appetite. A preparation made from this fruit and ginger has been found very effective in overcoming this condition. About one teaspoon of the juice of lime should be mixed with an equal quantity of the juice of ginger. One gram of rock salt should be added to this mixture. It should then be placed in sunlight for three days. A teaspoon taken after each meal will tone up the digestive system and improve the appetite.

The use of ginger is valuable in the loss of appetite. About five grams of this vegetable should be ground and licked with a little salt once a day for the treatment of this condition.

The application of an ice-bag over the stomach for half an hour before meals, and a cool hip bath once or twice daily, will go a long way in curing anorexia.

Sour grapes are another effective remedy for anorexia. The juice of these grapes should be used in kneading the flour before preparing chapattis.

Try to have some spicy food (beware of putting more oil as it may invite high lipid profile and cholesterols). Spicy food with less frequency like, twice or thrice in a week may increase the appetite.

To help heal the emotional factor in all eating disorders, drink herbal tea. Excellent choices are chamomile, comfrey, brahmi, or jatamamsi. These are good individually, but a tea made from all of these mixed together in equal amounts is especially effective to reduce stress and balance the emotions. Use 1/2 to 1 teaspoon of herbs steeped in boiling water for 10 minutes.

Lime: It is also one of the valuable remedies for anorexia as it helps you in restoring your normal appetite. Lime mixed with ginger proves very effective in this.
