How to Make a Lighter Flame in After Effects

    • 1). Click on the "Composition" icon. Set a new composition to "10 seconds" and press "OK."

    • 2). Right-click in the composition and select "New" and "Solid." Choose any color solid and press "OK."

    • 3). Click once on the solid layer and select "Layer" and "Pre-Compose." A new tab will open in the "Layers" tab with the "Solid" as the main composition.

    • 4). Type in "Particular" on the "Effects and Presets" tab. Drag and drop the "Trapcode Particular" effect onto the solid. The solid will disappear and be replaced with a black screen. Drag the timeline scrubber a few seconds and a large collection of white orbs will appear.

    • 5). Click on the "Effect Controls" tab. Expand the "Emitter" settings. Set the particles to "325." Set the "Emitter Type " to "Point." Set the "Direction" to "Directional." Set the "Direction Spread" to "79."

    • 6). Expand the "Particle" tab. Set the "Life" to "1.5" seconds. Set the "Life Random" to "35%." Set the "Particle Type" to "Sphere" and adjust the feather to "100%." Set the "Size" to "20" and the "Opacity" to "7%."

    • 7). Click on the "Physics" and set the gravity to "-40." Adjust the "Wind Z" to "278" and turn on the key frames. Adjust any of the other settings to make the lighter appear as thick and long as you need it.

    • 8). Type in "Fast Blur" in the "Effects and Presets" window. Drag and drop it on the "Lighter." Set the "Fast Blur" to "15." This adds more realistic animation to the flame.

    • 9). Type in "Glow" in the "Effects and Presets" window. Drag and drop it on the "Lighter." Set the "Glow radius to "40%" and you will see the flame look alive. Adjust the "Threshold" to "30%" and set "Color A" to an orange color to complete the lighter.
