There are some very specific foods to avoid with PCOS that can really aggravate your condition and make it worse.
There are entire groups of foods in fact that you should not be consuming which will make your life easier and help to improve your condition.
This requires a little knowledge of the root cause of PCOS: Insulin Resistance.
Insulin resistance is a condition where the hormone insulin does not function properly.
The body needs to flood your blood stream with insulin to convert glucose into energy for the body to use because only some insulin actually does its job so more is needed to stop your blood sugar from rising to dangerous levels.
This in turn has a knock on effect where other hormone production is imbalanced and with PCOS this is where the ovaries start to produce more androgens and not enough estrogen to maintain a proper menstrual cycle leading to the many symptoms of PCOS.
With this in mind here are the 3 top foods that can really help women to counter their condition.
  • Fruit Juices: While these are marketed as healthy drinks for everyone, most companies stuff these drinks with sugar and take out all of the good stuff which helps to regulate blood sugar.
Instead this will cause a bit spike in your blood sugar and insulin levels.
Avoiding fruit juice and switching to water or very watered down fruit juice is recommended.
  • White Bread: This is some of the most impure and unhealthy substances you can eat with PCOS.
All of the goodness and fiber has been taken out of white bread leaving behind what is essentially a glucose delivery system that will convert straight to that substance and your hormones will be going crazy again.
Avoid white bread and other overly manufactured and tampered with grain products.
  • Non-Organic Chicken: Non-organic chickens have often been pumped full of hormones to make them bigger so they can sell more to the consumer.
This created bland tasting chicken for one but is also a way to inject more hormones into a body already suffering from hormonal imbalance.
