Millions of craigslist users have really wondered how this site generates their funds. If you look at it at first, it appears that craigslist doesnâEUR(TM)t charge a dim, this appears to be correct. The truth is that this site charge fees for some classified sections while posting for some other sections are totally free. Over the years, some financial analysts have really prompted the site to generate revenue through banner advertising, but this site had no intention of commercializing itself at least for now.
Craigslist makes lots of money by charging about $25 for posting a job listing in the six major cities of the United States. For a job listing in San Francisco, it charges about $75. The last but not the least, this site charges an unprecedented $10 to list a real estate in New York. All the revenues generated from these areas cover all the expenditures of craigslist. This is the main reason why they donâEUR(TM)t really charge people.
It is important to note that the company has never made a profit since their emergence. This is to say that they are not profit-oriented; they are here just for the purpose of serving the good people of the United States. According to the president of this company Jim Buckmaster, they are interested in creating a wonderful user experience than maximizing profits.
Furthermore, craigslist is considering other ways of making lots of money in the near future like through Google text ads or banner advertising. Though the company is still contemplating on this. Their fear is that advertisement might take away the quality of the website. This is why according to the president; the shift to banner advertising might take some time to materialize. They really need to do their homework very well, because they donâEUR(TM)t want to compromise their vision of actualizing excellence all the time.
Some organizations like the UBS have not really understood craigslist business model and objectives, but the president keep on answering to critics that this site is not profit-oriented; the money they make from job listings covers their operation costs. The company is not perturbed by any of these because they focus all their attention on improving and maintaining the site, thus they donâEUR(TM)t need much revenue because they have no plans of hiring more employees in future. At present, the site operates with only twenty four workers.
