There are couples that have been remarried and want children.
For most this wouldn't be a problem, but what about those couples where the woman has had a tubal ligation? Normally in this case her physician would tell her the best option would be to look into IVF or in vitro fertilization.
Although many have followed the IVF journey there are some couples who do not want to use this type of treatment.
IVF tends to be very expensive and in this hurting economy many cannot afford the high price of these treatments.
If there was a guarantee of pregnancy things may be different but there is no way a pregnancy can be guaranteed no matter what treatment is being used.
So, does the couple have any other option? The answer is yes.
It is called tubal reversal or tubal ligation reversal surgery.
Although this may sound confusing it can be explained easy enough.
When a woman has a tubal ligation her fallopian tubes are blocked.
This can be performed in a number of ways.
Some doctors will use rings or clips, others will cauterize and others will cut the fallopian tubes.
Tubal reversal is when a surgeon actually repairs the damaged fallopian tubes.
Although this does take an expert it is still far less expensive than having multiple IVF treatments.
The price for having this surgery is about $7000.
00 if performed as an outpatient procedure.
There are a few factors that are considered with the success of reversal surgery.
The first is the woman's age at the time of reversal.
It is a well-known fact that getting pregnant is harder the older a couple gets.
A woman's eggs not only lack in quality but also the quality begins to diminish the older she gets.
This can make it harder to become pregnant and may take longer.
Generally a woman is considered fertile as long as she is ovulating and having regular periods.
There are some tubal reversal surgeons that will just turn a woman away because she is nearing the age of 40.
Fortunately, there are surgeons that believe as long as women are informed and do their research they are good candidates.
There have been many women that have had successful pregnancies all while nearing the age of 40.
Some have gone onto have children after this age.
If they had not been given the chance to have the surgery they would not have had their children.
Another factor that many do not take into consideration is the experience of the surgeon.
Many believe that of the surgeon has performed this type of surgery then they can do it.
The fact of the matter is that there are different ways to perform this type of surgery.
Having an experienced surgeon will give the patient the best odds of becoming pregnant.
The experienced surgeon has also had to handle cases where the fallopian tubes have had more damage.
Surgeons with less experience may not have had the chance to see these types of cases yet.
Tubal reversal surgery is a great option for those who do not want to use IVF.
Reversal surgery has also proven to have better pregnancy success rates when used in place of IVF.
The couple also has the option to have more children with added medical intervention.
