How to Move the Dryer Vent

    • 1). Disconnect the dryer venting between the dryer vent hood and the dryer. Dryer venting is typically secured with foil tape. Cut this tape and pull the pieces apart to disassemble them.

    • 2). Go outside and unscrew the dryer vent hood from the side of your home. Cut the caulk that seals it to your home with a utility knife. Grab on to it and pull it straight out to remove it.

    • 3). Drill a 4 1/2-inch hole through the side of your home at the location you want your new dryer vent hood.

    • 4). Slide the vent hood into the hole and secure with screws to the side of your home. Caulk around its perimeter with an exterior silicone caulk to make it weather-tight.

    • 5). Examine your dryer vent piping to see if any or most of it can be reused. If so, reassemble the pieces of the same order that they came apart. Secure each connection with foil tape.

    • 6). Measure and cut 4-inch dryer vent piping if you need to change the lengths of some of the pieces. Crimp the end of each cut piece with your pipe crimper. This allows each piece of pipe to slide into the next.
