We Don"t Matter, and That"s Okay

When viewing the universe in its greatest breadth, it's easy to recognize that our individual actions have such little consequence as to make no difference in the world.
In much the same way that a heavy object rolling along has enough momentum that individual actions can't stop it, the universe and the events of the world have such great momentum that on the scale of the individual, it's difficult, if not impossible to change the way things are.
For some people, this is a scary thought.
After all, is this idea implying that our lives are meaningless and won't make a difference in the world? Yes, it means this to some extent, but really, is that such a bad thing? Holding such a small impact on the big picture means that we can relax, enjoy our lives.
It's not worth stressing over the deeper impact of our actions and worry what the long term implications might be.
In the end, we can simply enjoy what we're doing.
Others might contest this idea, as it does seem to fly in the face of the butterfly effect which says that one simple action can have a huge impact on things.
But the big point here is that while small actions might seem to have a big effect on things, in the longer scale of time and space, those minor actions didn't really change all that much.
Nazi Germany was spawned by hundreds of complex factors.
Even if Adolf Hitler was killed early on, there would have been other people to fill his shoes.
Every coincidental event or action that leads to an important discovery can be explained away in a similar fashion.
Eventually, someone else would have figured it out.
It might seem like a harsh reality, to recognize that we're minor specks in a giant universe.
However, it's for this reason that we need to live for the simple things and truly appreciate who we are and where we come from.
Don't get caught up in changing the world, unless that world is the one within which you live.
