    • 1). Type a colon, a dash and then a closing parenthesis in a single line. Then press Enter to create a basic smiling face. It will look like this:
      :-)
      This emoticon expresses happiness, joking or agreement in an IM conversation. You can also use an opening parenthesis to express sadness or disagreement:
      :-(

    • 2). Type a colon, a dash and then a capital letter D in a single line. Then press Enter to create a smiling face with a wide, open smile. It will look like this:
      :-D
      This usually signifies that you are very happy or laughing.

    • 3). Type a semi-colon, a dash and then a closing parenthesis in a single line. Then press Enter to create a winking face. It will look like this:

      This emoticon signifies that you are happy, connotes flirting or generally friendly feeling towards the other person in the IM conversation.

      This emoticon is used to convey shock or surprise.

      This emoticon is used as a playful one, to indicate that you are kidding, joking or affectionately teasing someone.
