How to Copy the DCO of a Hard Drive With Linux
- 1). Open a root terminal. Log into the system as the root user or open a terminal and type "su root" without quotes and enter the root password.
- 2). Type "hddco -detect" without quotes to scan your hard drives for DCO objects. This is a slow process and may take up to two hours.
- 3). Enter your hard drive device from the list of drives with confirmed device configuration overlays. Every hard drive will be labeled with a number; press the corresponding number when you see the short name or device name of the one you would like to modify.
- 4). Copy the DCO information to a binary file on your hard drive. Copying is accomplished by running the command "hddco -cpm /dev/hda1 /root/dco" without quotes. Replace "/dev/hda1" with the path to your device shown in Step 3 and change "/root/dco" to the location and filename where you would like to save the copied DCO.
