Mergers and Acquisitions activity should benefit all parties involved. Whether a firm is being purchased or is the one doing the buying, it is important to find a complementary business that understands your goals and customer base.

Apple recently made another acquisition, which some believe could help strengthen its place in the television market. With Netflix, Hulu and other video streaming options available, it makes sense that Apple would want to offer the best options possible to its customers.

Apple announced earlier this week that it had acquired Matcha.tv, which is a content aggregation company that tells customers where video is available across the Internet. Back in May, Matcha.tv shut down, and CEO Guy Piekarz told TechCrunch at the time that the service was not gone for good, it was just moving in a new direction.

A VentureBeat article reported that the acquisition is worth $1 million to $1.5 million, but it has not yet been confirmed by the company. Apple released its standard, short statement saying that it makes acquisitions from time to time and generally does "not discuss our purpose or plans."

"The company doesn't have any valuable patents or a large user base," the article said. "What it does have is a very nice service that maps out all the available content both online and on your TV."

VentureBeat added that even though Apple hasn't been specific in how it wants to revolutionize television, this acquisition could suggest Matcha.tv's technology is in line with those future TV plans.

A technology merger and acquisition such as this is an example of how two companies could assist one another and continue to move forward in the business world.

Facebook's most recent technology acquisition could help the social networking company better connect users. With its purchase of Mobile Technologies, a speech recognition and machine translation startup, Facebook will have access to Jibbigo, which is an application. According to TechCrunch, this move could strengthen Facebook's video search options and even offer translated News Feed capabilities.

Tom Stocky, Facebook's director of product management, said in a blog post that it has always been the company's mission to make the world more open and connected. Even though over 1 billion people already use Facebook on a daily basis around the world, Stocky explained that his business is always looking for ways to connect the rest of the population.

"Voice technology has become an increasingly important way for people to navigate mobile devices and the web, and this technology will help us evolve our products to match that evolution," he said. "We believe this acquisition is an investment in our long-term product roadmap as we continue towards our company's mission."

Mobile Technologies posted an announcement on its website, saying that everyone there was excited to be joining the Facebook community and that once the technology acquisition is complete, many of them will be working out of Facebook's headquarters in Menlo Park, California.

The statement added that Facebook's mission to make the world a more open and connected place is the perfect platform for Mobile Technologies, helping it provide its technology on a global level. Furthermore, the social media company has a great road plan for long-term success, which Mobile Technologies believes will help it continuously develop current and future services as well.
