A local rabbi is both an author and hero.
Rabbi Celso Cukierkorn of Adat Achim Synagogue in Sunny Isles Beach has recently written a book, "Secrets of Jewish Wealth Revealed," and was a top-20 semi-finalist for Jewish Federations of North America's 2010 Jewish Community Hero award, the only person in Miami-Dade County to make it that far.
One reason that Cukierkorn received the hero nomination was because of his initiatives that have changed the lives of many Jews and non-Jews alike. Through his book, he's trying to reach out to both Jews and Gentiles through a clergyman's perspective.
"Jews and Gentiles are both members of our country and they both deserve to thrive," Cukierkorn said.
Cukierkorn's book will be out in stores after Thanksgiving but he is now taking pre-orders for it at http://www.rabbiraw.com. He discussed his goals for the book.
"The goal here is to try to help people to help themselves and give them the necessary tools so they can help us to rebuild a stronger, more real, more Godly and more happy America," he said.
Cukierkorn also discussed the importance of a rabbi providing financial information through this book.
"I think that as a clergy we have the social function to give people the tools to survive in this world and never in my lifetime has this information been so relevant as it is today so therefore it would be criminal for me to not share this information," he said.
Although Cukierkorn wasn't named a finalist for the Hero award, he was still surprised and proud to be nominated for the Jewish Community Heroes campaign that honors those making strides to repair the world, starting in their own communities.
"I feel honored for being nominated and I feel happy that so many people have that level of trust in me to go out of their way to vote," he said. "Working in the Jewish community, we feel that love is just a one-way road and I think this is one of the few times as a rabbi that you feel love being reciprocated."
Katy Steiger, a Sunny Isles resident and friend of Cukierkorn, complimented him.
"He's very helpful, honest, enlightening, informative, and insightful," she said.
