How to Knit a Long and Wide Cable Scarf

    • 1). Cast on 42 stitches.

    • 2). Knit the first three stitches. Purl the following stitch. Knit the next six stitches. Purl the following stitch. Knit the next three stitches. Purl the following stitch. Knit the next 12 stitches. Purl the following stitch. Knit three, purl one, knit six, purl one, then knit the last three stitches of the row.

    • 3). Knit the first four stitches. Purl the next six stitches. Knit one stitch, purl three stitches, then knit one stitch. Purl the next 12 stitches, knit one stitch, purl three stitches, knit one stitch, purl six and finish the row by knitting the last four stitches.

    • 4). Knit three, then purl one. Cable six stitches forward. To do this, slip three stitches onto your cable needle. Holding the cable needle with the stitches to the front, knit the next three stitches from your left needle. Knit the three stitches from your cable needle. This completes the cable stitch.

    • 5). Continue the row in Step 4. Purl one, knit three, then purl one. Cable six behind. Follow the same instructions as for cabling forward, except hold the cable needle to the back of your project while you knit the stitches from your left needle. After you cable six behind, cable six forward again. Purl one, knit three, purl one, cable six behind, purl one and knit three.

    • 6). Repeat Step 3 for the next row.

    • 7). Repeat Steps 2 to 6 until your scarf is the desired length. Cast off. Use your yarn needle to weave in any remaining ends.
