CEREC Dentistry - Do You Need It?

Well that depends on whether or not you want to have a great smile...
and want to save your valuable time to get one! First off, what is CEREC dentistry? CEREC stands for Chair-side Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics, or CEramic REConstruction.
CEREC uses the most advanced dental technology, including 3D imaging and CAD/CAM technology to create the crown.
In layman's terms, it is a computer-designed restoration for your tooth.
CEREC crowns are strong, durable, and are color matched to your surrounding teeth.
Additionally, with the latest software and hardware updates, crowns, veneers, inlays, etc.
can be prepared by using different types of ceramic material.
Generally the extensive repairing of a tooth would take several visits to your dentist.
This means that on the first visit, you would get an injection of anesthesia, have your tooth prepared, get an impression taken, and then have a temporary filling or cap put on your tooth.
You then would have to make a second appointment where you would get another injection to have the temporary pried off in order to have a permanent restoration put on.
Then the fitting of the crown takes place.
With a CEREC ceramic dental restoration product your dentist can restore your tooth in a single visit rather than the multiple sittings required using earlier techniques.
And it gets even better! The whole procedure takes between 1-3 hours; so it can be completed in just one appointment.
No more multiple visits of seemingly spending your life in a dentist's chair! What are the Advantages? 1.
Patients usually only have to go one time, as opposed to at least two trips for a traditional crown.
2.
One visit means a reduction in the number of local anesthetic injections (shots) needed.
3.
Oftentimes a partial coverage restoration can be completed versus a full crown resulting in better conservation of your existing teeth.
4.
Milled ceramic is stronger than hand layered and pressed materials resulting in a much stronger tooth.
Additionally the materials are chemically bonded to your tooth so the dental restoration actually strengthens your existing tooth! 5.
Plus these materials better match the composition of your natural tooth structure.
This means that when hot or cold food and drink is consumed the ceramic restoration and your natural tooth expand and contract at nearly equal rates.
6.
Homogeneous porcelain blends in better with your natural tooth than other porcelains resulting in a better looking smile.
7.
Better technology resulting in the ability to better copy what was previously there.
It can yield restorations that are virtual duplicates of the pre-existing tooth.
Are there any Disadvantages? 1.
Well, it does require the investment of time and money from your dentist to obtain the equipment and the skill necessary to do CEREC work; however there are NO disadvantages for the patient who receives the CEREC filling.
