Crime Rate Dropping, More Safety Measures Taken

In the United States each year, 2,000,000 home burglaries are reported.
One robbery occurs every 60 seconds, one vehicle theft every 20 seconds, one burglary every 10 seconds and one larceny every four seconds.
It goes without saying that unprotected homes are broken into far more than homes with alarm systems and locks.
In fact, homes without security systems are up to 300 percent more likely to be broken into.
Break-ins do not just occur in homes, but also in business corporations, stores and other popular areas, especially big cities.
According to the Federal Bureau of Investigation, crime rates in many cities have dropped from 2010 to 2011.
Despite the fact that crime rate is dropping, crime is still too high.
As one of the most traveled to locations in the United States, New York's crime rate, while less than what it has been in previous years, is still alarmingly high.
In 2011, according to the most recent information put out by the FBI, New York City had 8,238 burglaries, 51,725 larceny-thefts and 4,270 motor vehicle thefts.
With a population of 8,175,133 people, 64,233 in New York City experienced some sort of burglary or theft within the last year.
The question that many need to address is how can people improve their safety in the few places that are meant to feel secure? How can families keep their homes safe? How can company owners keep their businesses safe? On a positive note, crime rate did drop last year from what is was in 2010.
Although the drop was not largely significant, there was still an improvement.
Home security service statistics prove that the more heavily guarded a house, car or building is, the lesser the chance of a break-in.
There are many ways to improve the safety of one's property, including interior and exterior locks, doors, gates, safes, security cameras and alarm systems for 24-hour safety services.
Over the next 20 years, three out of four homes will be broken into.
The targets that burglars choose, whether it is in homes, businesses or stores, can always be avoided when the proper security measures are taken.
Stop and think about how many burglaries and thefts occurred while you were reading this article.
With the installation of security items such as alarm systems and locks, the number of break-ins that occur each year, each day and every few seconds, in places like New York City, have the potential to drastically decrease over time.
