Causes Of Ovarian Cyst And Natural Treatments
The normal role of the follicle is to increase in size throughout the monthly menstrual cycle, open and then release the egg. However, if the follicle does not function normally, and the egg is not released, the follicle can grow larger and become a cyst. The majority of the time these types of cysts are harmless and do not cause any discomfort, and they will disappear naturally without any treatment.
Another common form of an ovarian cyst is known as a corpus luteum cyst. The corpus luteum is an area of tissue that occurs in the ovary once an egg has been successfully released by the follicle. A corpus luteum that is functioning correctly will disintegrate if pregnancy does not occur following the release of the egg. However, sometimes this break down fails leading to the formation of a cyst.
The cause of this ovarian cyst is that the corpus luteum fills with fluid or blood and persists on the ovary. In the majority of cases, these cysts do not produce any symptoms and will also disappear naturally without any medical intervention.
In some cases, however, corpus luteum cysts can grow quite big, up to 4 inches, before they start to break down. If this occurs, it can cause a lot of lower abdominal pain. Natural remedies are often used to reduce pain, which I will discuss at the end of the article. In some circumstances, corpus luteum cysts filled with blood can burst and this causes much more pain and internal bleeding. For this reason it is important to see your doctor if you suspect you have a cyst or you are in pain.
It has been reported that the fertility drug 'clomiphene citrate' can cause ovarian cysts. Having a corpus luteum cyst will not prevent you from conceiving, but if you are trying to get pregnant it is best to avoid 'clomiphene citrate' due to it being linked to the cause of cysts which may lead to other complications.
Some ovarian cysts can contain abnormal tissues and these are known as benign cystic teratomas or dermoid cysts. These are caused by tissues in the ovary developing abnormally, and forming other types of tissue such as hair or teeth. This cyst can cause a large amount of pain if it twists on itself, but thankfully it is not a cancerous cyst.
At the present time you cannot prevent the causes of an ovarian cyst, but a lot of women believe that there are natural ways and certain lifestyle choice that can reduce the likelihood of developing ovarian cysts. These natural methods to tackle the causes of ovarian cyst include:
- increasing exercise,
- controlling stress,
- improving the quality of your diet, and
- improving your health
