    • 1). Start the GIMP application. Select "File" from the menu and choose "New." In the dialog, enter the width and height that you want for your graphic. Set the "Fill With" to "Transparency" and click "OK."

    • 2). Change the "Foreground" color in the toolbar to a medium gray. Select the "Rectangular" tool from the toolbar and use it to draw a rectangular selection on the canvas. Use the "Paintbucket" tool to fill this rectangle with gray.

    • 3). Use the "Rectangular" tool to draw a rectangular selection that extends slightly above and below the right side of the first rectangle. This will form the right roiled up part of the scroll.

    • 4). Select the "Blend" tool from the toolbar and in the tool options choose the "Brushed Aluminum." Drag this gradient across the selection.

    • 5). Select "Filters" from the menu and choose "Blur." From the options, choose "Motion Blur." In the dialog, choose "Linear," set the "Length" to 10 and the "Angle" to 0. Click "OK."

    • 6). Repeat steps 3 to 5 to produce the left side of the scroll. Save your work.
