Healthy Snacks Are Good-Avoid Obesity

Childhood obesity is on the rise largely due to poor diet and lack of exercise. Kids don't go out and ride their bikes on long all day adventures anymore, nor do they climb trees, or play outside with other kids and run around the neighborhood. Times have changed and so have children's activities. The computer and TV have taken over all of their leisure time.
Kids learn by example for both activities and diet. If mom and dad are active and eating healthy, they will too. If mom and dad eat fast food four times a week, they will too. It's understandable in today's fast paced world that parents don't have time to cook every meal. But eating out is all about choices.
Fortunately many fast food companies are starting to meet the demand from the public to offer healthier foods. Although McDonalds menus have not changed that much the menus posted now show the number of calories, fat and carbohydrates in each meal. Burger Kings deluxe hamburger meal is well over 1,100 calories. By posting the calorie intake many parents have stopped the habit of buying fast foods and ordering hamburgers and fries for their children.
Is your child overweight? Are they tired and often sick? One of the culprits could be the food they're eating or they're not eating. Start writing down what your kids eat and you might be surprised how much sugar and processed food they eat. Do they eat potato chips, cookies, candy and cracker snacks?
Children are growing and need lots of sleep, exercise and nutritious food. Keeping track of your child's eating habits isn't really that difficult. Keeping healthy snacks readily available is critical to your child's overall good health.
Children like adults, often eat mindlessly, grabbing the easiest and quickest snack. Keep some healthy snacks in the fridge and in the cupboard and make them easy to access.
Healthy snacks like carrots, celery with peanut butter, apples, oranges, raisins and nuts are easy to find in any store. The key is to have them ready to eat. Wash and cut the carrots and celery. Have apple slices ready and oranges too.
One of the easiest and most nutritious snacks for kids is good old fashioned trail mix. Trail mix is packed with protein and vitamins. It tastes like candy. Just mix some raisins, cranberries, peanuts, almonds and maybe some coconut. You can add granola to the mix and give it some crunch.
How do you know what a healthy snack is? A healthy snack is something that's natural like fruits and vegetables. Stay away from white sugar and white flour and all processed foods.
Put an end to obesity in your child. You and your children must eat healthy.
