Do Not Declaw Your Cat

Owning a cat can be a pleasure.
It can also be a nightmare.
In order to be the owner of a pet, you have to have patience and discipline.
One of the problems cat owners face is the destruction of property in the house.
This destruction is done by the feline with its claws.
When this happens the owner of the feline usually has 2 responses.
One is to get the cat declawed.
The other is to take it to the S.
P.
C.
A.
or an animal shelter.
New owners of cats will often try and comfort themselves by telling said self that it is better to give them to a shelter than putting them to sleep.
People that want a cat should be made aware of one thing.
Declawing the cat has absolutely no benefit to the feline.
Many will thing it does just like neutering the animal does, but it does not.
So what does getting your cat declawed actually do? First of all, it takes away the only form of protection a cat has.
Even if you have an indoor cat, it may get outside at some point.
Without its claws, a cat can not fend off a dog, another cat or something else that may want to eat the cat.
The next thing is that it is very painful for the kitty.
Just think how painful and how long you were in pain after a surgery.
Sure, Meds help deal with the pain.
What happens when you run out of the prescription and can not get any more refills.
You still may have pain for a few weeks or months after wards.
The same goes for your cat.
In fact, the cat may be in so much pain that it goes bonkers in the cage while recovering.
This pain can lead to something that you really do not want.
What is it? Your pet now has sore paws.
It has to go use the litter box.
When done the feline goes to cover up what it has just done using its paws.
It is very painful.
Now your kitty thinks that the litter box is causing the pain.
If the kitty is not going to go in that litter box, where do you think it is going to go? Someplace else in the house that you do not want it to.
The next thing to happen may be that your cat starts to bite.
Since it can not give a warning swipe with its paws and scratch you or whoever or whatever else, The little kitty will now bite.
This is what happened to my cat.
It figured out that a swat with its paw did nothing to deter anyone from doing what they were doing to the cat.
So my little kitty decided to bite.
You can be petting her and when she gets annoyed or has had enough, look out.
Out of no where, she will bite you and draw blood.
A cat needs its claws to keep its muscles in shape and maintain its flexibility.
You have all seen a cat on the rug or something else stretch and scratch.
Well this stretching keeps the muscles in that cat body lose and flexible.
The claws grab on to let the cat stretch out the muscles.
The last thing I want to point out to you about why you should not get your cat declawed is this.
It may lead to arthritis and joint problems later in the Kitty's life.
When you have your cat declawed, it may alter the way it walks.
This would be the equivalent of you wearing someone Else's sneakers that have been broken in for that person.
Put a pair of these on and see how much your back starts to hurt in a very short time.
Should you have your cat declawed? No, you should not.
You can take the time to teach your little buddy not to scratch and/or where they can scratch.
You and the kitty will be two happy people.
