What is Microsoft Works 8.5?
- The upgrade does not add any additional features to Works 8, or to Suite 2005. It is has been provided purely for security reasons. No security breaches have been reported by users of Works 8, and Microsoft states that the upgrade is a response to "preemptive testing."
- Works 8 was superseded by Works 9, with Works 9 being aimed at users of Microsoft Office versions 97 through 2007. Works 9 also has had various upgrades released but none of them were as extensive as Works 8.5.
- Works was included on several brands of computers (Dell, for example), as it was a much cheaper product than Microsoft Office. At present, machines sold with software already installed have should had Office Starter 2010 installed, which is a cut down version of Microsoft Office 2010, but cheaper to buy. While Microsoft is still supporting and selling Works, its popularity is waning due to the superior quality of programs available in Office Starter.
