    • 1). Lift the engine cover. Slip the end of the wrench over the negative battery cable and turn it to the left to loosen it. Slip the cable off the negative post so it doesn't cause a short.

    • 2). Trace the positive battery cable to the starter. The starter is a cylinder-shaped object mounted on the right hand side of the Toro's engine compartment.

    • 3). Use a screwdriver to remove the positive wire running to the old starter. Also use the screwdriver to remove the ground wire that runs from the old starter to a grounding screw on the chassis of the mower.

    • 4). Unbolt the retaining bolt that mounts the old starter in place. Remove the old starter; set it aside and then mount the new starter. Fasten the retaining bolt into place with the wrench.

    • 5). Wrap the ground wire to the ground terminal on the new starter and tighten it with the screwdriver. Also attach the Toro's positive battery wire to the positive terminal on the new starter and tighten it with the screwdriver.

    • 6). Replace the Toro's negative battery cable with the wrench.
