LEED was developed by the Green building council US for designing environmentally sustainable construction.
It is a voluntary standard to support green building design.
It can be applied in schools, homes, public buildings, estates and many other kinds of buildings.
It is applied in more than thirty states in the US and more than forty other countries.
Leadership in energy and environmental design has a number of objectives.
These are; to define the green building by establishing the standard of measurement, promote integrated design practices, recognize environmental leadership in the building industry, and to increase awareness among the customers by specifying the benefits of green building.
Leadership in energy and environmental design is recommended for specific areas that are sustainable.
These include; materials and resources, energy and atmosphere, water efficiency, indoor environment and innovative design process.
It can be incorporated in both the new and old buildings.
The LEED certified buildings can be classified into four types.
These are; basic, platinum silver and gold certified buildings.
LEEDS promotes healthy environment which translates in to more healthier and more productive people.

Should a person want to get certification, they can register online and get certification according the the type of building they have.
Online registration is very convenient as it is faster and a person can do this from the comfort of their homes.
One can only get certification if they have demonstrated sustainability by meeting the standards in environment and energy efficiency.
