Composting can provide a some solutions to an issue that is concerning to many of us.
Landfills are becoming full, incinerating garbage is becoming less and less popular, and other disposal options are becoming scarce.
So, why not compost? Here are a few other ideas to consider when deciding if you should compost or not.
You have a daily renewable resource for compost no matter where you live.
You may own your home or you may rent or lease your home, it does not matter.
If you grow indoor plants, outdoor plants, have a garden, have a flower bed or enjoy keeping a lush lawn, the end result of composting is a nutrient rich soil.
This soil can grow amazing plants, and do it without the aid and expense of fertilizers.
Think of the educational impact with composting.
Children can do more than recycle aluminum cans, plastic bottles and newspapers.
They can watch the whole cycle, from "gross" food scraps or other organic wastes to something that is pleasant to handle and is good for the soil.
Learning through experience, they can personally have a positive effect on the environment and make a difference in our world.
Next you can help them select seeds or plants that they can tend and watch grow.
Great family time presents itself and what a sense of accomplishment and pride that can instill in them.
During the process, you will greatly reduce the volume of your garbage (and the smell), plus promote a healthier and trouble free septic system with the less frequent use of your garbage disposal.
Speaking of garbage disposal, did you know water is becoming scarce? Every time you run your garbage disposal, you are running gallons of this valuable resource down the drain.
The net results of composting are healthier plants, less garbage, less septic maintenance, more water conserved all while saving money.
You will now be on track to becoming more environmentally friendly! Using a compost tumbler will hasten the time it takes to turn your disposables into black dirt, also known as 'black gold'.
