Strawberry Shortcake: Rockaberry Roll - Overview

Strawberry, Ginger Snap, and Angel Cake are feeling berry musical, so they decide to form a band and put together a talent show for all Strawberryland. But when their band can't seem to get it together, Strawberry and her band mates are cut from the talent show!

If they can learn to listen to each other, instead of trying to steal the spotlight, they may get one more chance to play their music for the show.

Later, when Peppermint Fizz wants to join the band, the girls get an opportunity to give a second chance as well. Playing music isn't hard once the girls learn to listen to each other, practice hard, and have confidence.

Strawberry Shortcake: Rockaberry Roll - Guide Review

Like other Strawberry Shortcake DVDs, Rockaberry Roll presents kids with a delightfully colorful story about friendship and caring. Strawberry and her friends learn that, in order to make music together, they have to listen to each other and resist the desire to steal the show.

Rockaberry Roll presents a Strawberry Shortcake and friends who have grown up a little (this seems to be the second DVD with the characters having a new look). Sporting trendier clothes and hair styles, they seem older and more mature than in some of the past videos. The kids also seem slightly older in their words and actions in this DVD.

While the story in Rockaberry Roll teaches a good lesson, some of the friends have a hard time getting there. Ginger Snap and others become especially snappy at each other as they argue about their sound.

No matter how cool the creators try to make Strawberry Shortcake and her friends seem, they are still only going to appeal to younger girls, so it is disappointing that the characters display as much attitude as they do. To clarify, the argumentative content in the show is overall very mild, but the disagreements between friends sound a little to grown up for the target age group. The show is musical and still very cute. The characters' clothes and styles are very appropriate and perfect for little girls, but a slightly toned down version would have been even better.
