Guest Room Decor Ideas

A guest bedroom is designed with the comfort of visitors in mind. The easiest way to begin the process is to look at the room as you would a room in a hotel or inn: a comfortable bed, appropriate room temperature, natural light during the day and adequate lighting at night. The guest bedroom is another room in the house to put your decorative stamp on. - No one wants to feel like they're running a bed and breakfast for long, but a B&B can be a good source for decor inspiration. B&Bs are famous for rooms with a theme, so choose a mood you want the room to convey, and build a theme around it. For instance, a "Green House Room" could include earth-toned bedding, thick carpeting, shelves lined with live plants and lush ivy hanging from ceiling hangers.
- Country lodges are built for relaxation and provide plenty of inspiration for a comfortable guest bedroom decor. A big, comfortable bed should be central to the room, covered with handmade quilts or quilts that look handmade. Rustic touches, like hurricane lamps and braided rugs, add to the appeal of the room.
- The idea behind a shabby chic guest bedroom is to soften the edges of each piece that is used, making them look well used, but well kept. Shabby chic is known for its white-washed pieces of furniture and muted colors in wall and fabric choices. Stay away from the "matchy-matchy" look, but rather, find colors and fabrics that coordinate well with one another. For instance, rather than using the exact same pink in the accent pillows as you have used in the draperies, choose a slightly lighter or darker shade of the color.
- The words "clean lines" describe the look of a modern cool guest bedroom. Characterized by a simple, unadorned bed with unfussy, tailored bedding, the modern guest room should also include unadorned or simply adorned window treatments. Utilizing a simple dresser in the same style and color as the bed will complete the clean look.
- Guest rooms are, perhaps, the best room in the house to use in more than one way. A comfortable sofa bed can be arranged in a home office or den. One of the important things to remember when using a room for more than one purpose is to focus on the comfort of your guests. Purchase a sofa bed that you have tested for comfort, provide plenty of soft bedding and pillows, and ensure that the drapes on the windows are dark enough to allow your guests a little extra sleep in the morning.
