How to Make Window Screen Flowers
- 1). Clean the screen with a damp cloth. Remove any dust or residue before applying any type of paint.
- 2). Place the screen down on a flat surface. The screen should be attached to the frame, so the screen hovers slightly above the flat surface.
- 3). Draw your flower design on the white paper, using a black marker. You should just focus on the outline of the flower and the major parts, such as the center and petals. Slide the white paper underneath the screen, so the black line can be seen through the screen.
- 4). Draw the outline of your flower sketch on the screen with a chalk pencil, using the paper sketch underneath as your guidance. Do not creative immense detail on the screen, as it will merely help you paint your flower.
- 5). Apply paint to the screen by starting with the background colors first. For example, apply the color of the center and petals of the flower before applying the details of the flower petal, the thorns on the rose stems or the shaded areas of a bended flower petal.
- 6). Add the smaller details to the flower design when the background colors have dried, using a fine-tipped paintbrush. This could include the outline perimeter of the flower, shading on the flower petals or creating a shaded green stem.
- 7). Poke the holes in the screen, using toothpicks. If the screen holes are clogged after painting, the natural sunlight cannot get through, which will make the room much darker than before applying the flower paint design.
- 8). Spray the varnish on top of the finished window screen flower design and let it dry. Apply it from a distance to avoid clogging the holes again. Leave at least 20 inches between the screen and the spray head of the varnish spray bottle. Let the screen dry completely before reinstalling it in front of the window.
