What Matters to You
What would you do to make this world a better place, if time and resources were not a limitation? Be ambitious with your answer.
Get creative and spend some time thinking about this.
The idea behind this question is an attempt to get to the essence of what is important to you.
There may be different areas of your life that you look to in an attempt to answer this question.
For example: your neighbourhood, your work, family, sport, education, health, your hobbies, people, animals, your environment.
However one thing will probably stand out more than others.
Chances are that what is important to you will come from life experience, interests you have developed, something you have heard or read.
Remember this is about what is really and truly important to you and not what you feel obliged to do.
'Bring about world peace' may be the noble answer, but for you, you would so love it if everyone knew how to surf.
Now the reality check.
Time and resources probably are a concern to you.
So how are you going to bring about the thing that matters to you? Maybe you should just forget about it and get on with the old routine, declaring it a fantasy.
Or you could use the time and resources you do have to make the difference.
There's a simple problem solving technique you can use which can assist in solving many problems, small or world-changing.
Begin by writing the thing that matters to you on the top of a piece of paper.
Try to give details of your plan, so you are clear in your mind about what you are aiming for.
Now how are you going to bring about that change? This is the important step since you will be choosing one of these possibilities to implement.
Consider your talents, personality, support and actual resources when making this list.
Really get creative and write all ideas down.
Then spend time going through the pros and cons of each possibility.
Which ones are actionable, realistic and achievable by you? From here you will have a good idea of which solution you will choose.
Having made your choice, set up a plan of how you are going to implement it.
Perhaps literacy is important to you.
You decide that to begin with you will set up a website which promotes books and reading for all ages.
Remember though that to make the difference you do need to action your plan.
You may decide to devote your working life to it, an evening a week, an hour a month.
Do what suits you.
Also, as you achieve one goal towards your biggie, you can move forward and select bigger solutions.
Somewhere on this planet, someone has a solution to each of the world's problems.
It might be one of us.
With your help, we can build a more hopeful world.
