We all know that social media makes an excellent tool for getting in touch with your friends, family and co-workers but did you know that it makes for an excellent marketing tool as well? The idea here is really simple: you're already building a list of contacts by using various social media platforms and since you already have rudimentary contacts to begin with, why not use those contacts to effectively extend your network? It is a lot easier for you to test out your marketing strategies on people that you already know and trust you as opposed to firing blindly to the masses.
Since these platforms are all about building your very own network of contacts, you don't have to worry about the tasks of linking to people, having them link back to you and so forth.
Once you have signed up to a particular platform, you can just follow people you know or people you find interesting and start interacting with them.
Most social media sites are built around the concept of having people show off what they like and what they dislike.
When using social media sites, most people will lay their hearts out on a plate because to them, their profiles are the representations of their true selves.
Take those things that they like and build your marketing strategies around them.
Voila! Instant targeted marketing right there! Big research companies are now using social media platforms like Facebook and twitter as sources for demographic information and they charge exorbitant amounts for their findings.
