    Using Paint

    • 1). Open Paint, pull down the “Image” menu and select “Attributes.” Set the size for your badge; to create a full page of badges, set dimensions of 8.5 inches by 11 inches and click the “OK” button.

    • 2). Click the “Text” tool, which looks like an “A.” Select a color from the “Color Picker” and click in the top left corner of the page. Type the person’s name. Click below the name, reduce the font size and optionally, change color. Add another detail, such as the person’s city and state, job title or nickname.

    • 3). Click the “Pencil” tool, select a new paint color and draw a little design to the left of or above the person’s name, such as symbol of your club like a paw print or palm tree. Another option is a company logo or just an abstract design.

    • 4). Move your cursor to a section below the first name badge and repeat the process with a new name and description, filling up the space on the page. Leave room for the graphic next to each name.

    • 5). Click the “Select” tool, which looks like a box made of dotted lines. Draw an outline around just the graphic on the first name badge and press the “Ctrl” and “C” keys together on your keyboard to copy it. Press the “Ctrl” and “V” keys, then drag your cursor to the right, which makes a copy of the drawing; drag it into place on the next name badge. Continue pressing “Ctrl” and “V” key to paste copies of the graphic and position them on all the badges.

    Using Publisher

    • 1). Open Publisher or download a free trial. Click “Blank Print Publication,” which automatically opens an 8.5 inch by 11 inch page. This is useful if you want to make multiple badges per page; to reduce the page size to just a single badge, pull down the “File” menu, click “Page Setup,” click “Custom” and type in your preferred size.

    • 2). Click the “Text Box” tool, which looks like an “A” on an index card. Draw a text box on the badge workspace and type the person’s name. Press the “Enter” key and type additional information, such as their office in the club or how long they’ve been a member. Use the text toolbar at the top of the page to change the words’ appearance with color, font and size.

    • 3). Pull down the “Insert” menu, click “Picture” and select “Clip Art.” Type a word or phrase into the “Search for” box, such as “pencil,” “construction hat” or “hazmat” and click “Go.” Scroll through the results, then double-click a graphic, which appears on the card. Drag it into place to the left of the person’s name.

    • 4). Draw an outline around both the text and the graphic with your cursor; you should see a dotted line circling both items. Press the “Ctrl” and “C” keys on your keyboard to copy them. Press the “Ctrl” and “V” keys, which pastes in an additional copy onto the page. Repeat this pasting and fill the page with ID badges.

    • 5). Click into one of the copied badges, highlight the name and details and replace it with another person. Repeat this to change all of the badges on the page so they are different, with a new person in each one.

    Using Word

    • 1). Open Word or download a free trial (see resources section), pull down the “File” menu and select “New.” When the “New Document” pane opens on the right side of the screen, type “badge” into the “Search online for” box and click “Go.”

    • 2). Scroll through the results, click a link to view an example design and click “Download” to open the template in your Word workspace. A page of badges fills the screen.

    • 3). Click into the first badge, highlight the placeholder text with your cursor and type directly over it with a person’s name and other details. Repeat this to fill all the badges on the card.

    • 4). Click once on a placeholder graphic to highlight it, then press the “Delete” key. Add a new graphic by pulling down the “Insert” menu, clicking “Picture,” selecting “Clip Art” and typing a word into the “Search for” box. Click “Go,” scroll through the results and double-click a graphic, which appears on the badge.

    • 5). Right-click the new graphic and select “Copy.” Click onto one of the other badges, click once on the placeholder graphic to highlight it, then press the “Delete” key to remove it. Right-click and select “Paste” to add in the new graphic. Repeat to add the graphic to all the badges on the page.
