How to Make a Flange Pillow With Tapered Corners
- 1). Cut one piece of silk to measure 18 1/2 inches square. Cut two rectangles of silk to measure 18 1/2 inches long and 11 inches wide to create a pillow cover back opening.
- 2). Fold one 11-inch-long edge of one rectangle of silk 1/4 inch to the wrong side of the fabric and pin in place. Repeat with the remaining rectangle.
- 3). Place the large square of silk on a flat surface, wrong side of the fabric up. Position one rectangle on top of the square, matching the square’s left edge, right side of the fabric down. Position the remaining rectangle at the square's right edge, right side of the fabric down. Pin the edges with the straight pins. Sew a straight seam 1/4 inch from the edge around the entire edge.
- 4). Turn the pillow cover to the right side through the back opening. Press all edges flat with an iron. Draw a 12-inch square centered on the right side of the pillow cover with a fabric pencil, using the ruler as a guide.
- 5). Pin the fabrics together at the line. Sew through the line with a straight stitch, using the sewing machine. Insert the pillow form through the back opening of the completed flange pillow covering.
